The Reader as Participant

According to Lisa Cron, we experience stories as participants, not observers. In order to draw a reader into a story, we must design our characters to overcome inner struggles the reader can relate to.

Discussion leader Lani Forbes is a math and science teacher that grew up on the beaches of southern California. The daughter of an ex-Mexican drug smuggling surfer and a librarian, she has always harbored a deep love for the ocean and books. She writes young adult science fiction and fantasy, and her first novel The Seventh Sun is coming from Blackstone Publishing in early 2020. She is represented by Samantha Wekstein of Writers House and is an active member of RWA, SCBWI, IWG, and the writing blog Quills and Inkblotts.  She is also a proud Gryffindor!
